Prayer for Sri Lanka
Father & Mother of humanity,
We thank you for the Sri Lankan people, especially those in the North and East, who spare no effort to rebuild their lives and advocate for improvements, even when the world we have created with cruelty ignores and rejects them.
We pray for women who are vulnerable and marginalized in the world especially those in the north and east Sri Lanka who have lost their husbands and sons who are their protectors and bread winners in
the recent war.
Have mercy on these voiceless people who are easily exploited needing protection and respect for whom you challenged us to care for in the Bible and raise people with compassion and passion for justice to offer advocacy and support.
This we pray in the name of the One who identified with the least of his siblings.
Prayer for Iran
God of righteousness,
In your son Jesus you showed us the way of faith and taught us to stand up for our faith even when it leads to the cross. Jesus said “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven”. In those words you promise to honour those who are martyred in your name.
While we hear stories of the persecuted church we realise that the churches we are in have every kind of freedom and we sometimes abuse that freedom by persecuting others. Remind us LORD of Stephen who died proclaiming your word, and remind us that today there are still people who are persecuted for proclaiming your word. We pray for all those who do not have the freedom to practice their faith and proclaim your word especially in Iran where many Christians are in prison for witnessing to their faith or baptising others. Fill them with your hope and the promise of the kingdom of heaven. Comfort their families and loved ones for their reward is great in heaven.
